For a fish population to remain stable and perpetuate itself, a fish must reproduce at least once during its lifetime. For this reason, the law envisages some minimum measurements for several species, below which fishing them and selling them is prohibited.
We need to allow fish species to grow, reach sexual maturity and reproduce at least once.
Before making our purchases, we need to find out about minimum recommended sizes of fish species and, whenever possible, we should favour larger fish.
