Fyke nets and Coghill nets are so-called mobile traps, as they can be moved from one fishing area to another based on the movements of the prey. Fyke nets and coghill nets consist of reinforced nets on plastic hoops.
The Fyke net is a fishing tool now no longer used, but was once used for fishing in the lagoon and in shallow coastal waters. It is generally lowered close to the shore and is supported by an anchoring pole, which is clearly visible on the surface of the water. Starting from the opening of the net, there are several chambers shaped like a funnel with the entrance that gets narrower and narrower until the last room, where the fish becomes a prisoner.
The Coghill net is a fishing tool from made of netting fixed net to plastic hoops. It consists of "cone-shaped" chambers, one inside the other, which only allow the fish to move inwards, thus trapping it. The coghill net closes like a concertina when it is stowed, thus taking up very little space.
